Use this page when a material decision needs context before quoting. Kennametal can review grade family, form, documentation and application risk for refractory metals, carbide and specialty steel requests.
For the fastest response, describe the current material, the reason it is being questioned, the target property, the operating environment and any inspection or certificate requirement. If the request is urgent because a production cell is down, note the failure mode and the replacement form first. If the request is early in design, include the expected load, temperature, wear mechanism and planned annual usage so the team can separate prototype guidance from production supply planning.

Two Column Quote Form
The strongest inquiry includes the current material, the target property, the service temperature, the atmosphere, the shape or drawing, expected annual volume and any quality clauses. If you only know the failure mode, that is still enough to begin. For wear failures, describe chipping, abrasion, galling or edge breakdown. For high-temperature applications, include the peak temperature, time at heat and whether oxidation is present. For aerospace, medical or defense routing, include certificate language early so documentation does not become a late-stage blocker.
After submission, the request can be routed as a grade comparison, a documentation question, a supply check or a production support discussion. That routing matters because each path needs a different specialist. A property matrix question belongs with metallurgy, while an order package question may need quality review before commercial quoting. Separating those paths at intake makes the follow-up more precise and prevents a generic reply from delaying a critical material decision.
